The historic south end
The permanent promenade dates to about 1910, while the Life-Saving Station Museum preserves the earlier story of surf rescue, storms, and shipwrecks. The museum, Trimper Rides, pier, arcades, and oldest food stands remain concentrated near the Inlet. The character changes farther north as hotels and beach entrances replace the south-end amusement cluster.
Short historic circuit
Begin beside the Life-Saving Station Museum, pass Trimper Rides, and continue through the pier and arcade blocks. This compact route keeps Ocean City's maritime history and oldest amusements in one walk.
Longer south-end walk
Walk north beyond the pier for Dolle's candy, Fisher's Popcorn, Thrasher's fries, and more arcades. Turn back while the south-end businesses still dominate if the historic district is the point of the outing.
Full boardwalk
The boardwalk runs nearly three miles from the Inlet to 27th Street. The upper stretch is increasingly hotel-lined, and a one-way walk requires the Beach Bus or another arranged return to the south end.

Boardwalk glow
Begin at the Inlet and work north past Trimper Rides, arcades, Dolle's candy, Fisher's Popcorn, and Thrasher's fries. The official tourism office traces the permanent promenade to about 1910, and several food and amusement businesses have served these southern blocks for generations.
Lower boardwalk landmarks
Inside the former Life-Saving Service station, exhibits cover surf rescue, storms, shipwrecks, and the barrier-island community before the modern resort. Outside, Trimper Rides and the pier show how the same blocks became an amusement district. The exhibits and rides place maritime history and resort history side by side.
Check the museum and ride schedules before setting out; their hours are not identical to the always-open promenade. On a crowded evening, complete the museum and Inlet Park first, then enter the amusement blocks. In rain, use the museum for the longer stop and the arcades for a passing shower.
Inlet water
Fishing boats and charter traffic use the commercial harbor west of the resort strip. From Inlet Park, that traffic adds a working waterfront to the beach-and-amusement view.
Amusement district
The carousel and family rides open beside the boards rather than inside a remote park. One ride can remain a stop between the museum and pier instead of becoming a separate drive and parking decision.

Boardwalk arcades cover a passing shower near the Inlet. The Life-Saving Station Museum supplies the more substantial indoor visit; for a long wet afternoon, check the Performing Arts Center schedule.
Where to turn around
North of the historic district, hotels and beach entrances increasingly define the route. Continue to 27th Street for the full boardwalk and arrange a Beach Bus return, or turn back after the south-end food stands if the museum, rides, and pier were the reason for coming.
